Mary Ellen Green, 91, of Springfield, died at home, Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. She was born June 2, 1917 in Springfield to Verney and Catherine Harney Cantrall. She married Edward J. Green, Sr. on January 26, 1938. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1957. Mrs. Green was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish for over sixty years and a lifetime member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was employed at Springfield Dry Goods, Floyds Apparel and retired from Memorial Medical Center as a Ward Clerk. She was a member of Memorial's Retirees Club and the DAV Auxiliary. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Thomas Eli and Verney Cantrall; sisters, Theresa Young and Catherine Blackburn and her son, Thomas B. Green. She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Green Poage of Springfield, Edward J. (wife, Alice) Green Jr. of Springfield, Ruth Ann (husband, Ron) Haws of Centralia and daughter-in-law, JoAnn Green of Chatham; seven grandchildren, Deborah Sue Magerl, Donna Marie Davis, Edward J. Green, III, Garry G. Faichney, IV, Thomas B. Green, II and Michelle Ann Stenke, and Daron Poage; fourteen great-grandchildren, Angela Sipe, Ashley, Rebecca and Aden Davis, Kimberly and Adam Magerl, Nicole and Dusti Ann Faichney, Daron and Elizabeth Poage, Grace and Faith Stenke, Molly Green and Nicholas Carter; three sisters, Valeria Hohimer, Laura Ratkie and Drucilla Fahrenbacher and one brother, Henry Cantrall all of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2008 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield with Rev. David Hoelfer, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
