Mary Elizabeth "Maribeth" Flynn, 72, of Springfield, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at St. John's Hospital. Maribeth was born April 19, 1937 in Springfield, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Carter Kastner. Maribeth was a dedicated Catholic woman who lived her faith as a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. A hard worker, she worked as a crossing guard at St. Joseph's for more than 12 years and spent more than 20 years as a manager at Taco Gringo. She also helped coordinate the St. Joseph School Lunch Program from 1976 to 1984. Maribeth was a generous and devoted mother and grandmother. She lived for her family, especially her granddaughter, Jessica. Maribeth had great sense of humor, admirable strength, and was a true fighter throughout her illness. A "mom" to many, she will be missed by all of her family and friends. Preceding Maribeth in death are her parents. She is survived by her children, Brian (wife, Patti) Flynn of Spaulding, Stacy Flynn of Springfield, and Patrice (husband, Todd) McLaughlin of Marion; and three grandchildren, Jessica Flynn, Colby and Ben McLaughlin. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 687 E.
