He was born June 6, 1957, in Red Oak, IA, the son of Jack and Helene Fedderson Savage. Mark married Veronica Garganta on June 29, 1985, in Austin Texas.
Mark graduated from East High School in Sioux City, IA. He attended college and became one of the few people accepted into medical school without a degree. Mark later graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed his family medicine residency in Springfield, IL at SIU. Mark practiced medicine, specializing in both family and emergency medicine. He retired from practice in January of 2024. Mark was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Bishop Griffon Assembly #0201. He was also a proud Eagle Scout, and became one of the youngest in the country at the age of 16. Mark enjoyed landscaping, riding his Harley, traveling, going to St. Louis Cardinals and Blues games, and Green Bay games. Most recently, Mark was pursuing his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark is survived by his wife, Veronica Savage, M.D.; four daughters, Tess (Matthew) Suttles of Austin, TX, Kyra Savage of Collinsville, IL, Carly Savage of Springfield, IL and Grace Savage of Seattle, WA; two grandchildren, Isaac and Mark; and siblings, Jackie Weatherly, Richard “Dick” (Kacie) Savage and James “Jim” (Vilene) Savage.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home Springfield, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut Street, Springfield, IL, with Rev. Jeff Grant.
