He was born in Chicago, IL. Dr. Weiss was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, a retired district 186 special Education teacher.
Dr. Weiss, a retired Optometrist, was enthusiastic about researching and preserving military history. His activities were enhanced through memberships in the Orders and Medals society of America, American Military Insignia collectors, Military Heraldry Society of Great Britain and the Candadian Warplane Heritage Association. Dr. Weiss was a life member of the Flying Tigers Fourteenth Air force Association, The Burma Star Association of Great Britain (First American Branch) Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Commemorative Air Force.
During World War II, he served with distinction the Fourteenth Air Force Flying Tigers, the Royal Canadian Air Force and the RCAF Bomber command.
Volunteer activities included UIS Sangamon Auditorium Usher, U of I alumni Association, U of I Foundation and the U of I President’s Advisory Council.
Dr. Weiss was the Founder of the 114th Regiment reactivated group. He enjoyed his time with members of Masonic Lodge#4 the Scottish Rite and the St. Andrew’s Society.
Per Dr. Weiss’ wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of attending services, Dr. Weiss requested those interested spend time volunteering with the favorite charity.
