Joseph J. Myerscough, 93, of Springfield, passed away late Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Regency Nursing Care. Joe was the oldest of nine children of the late Joseph and Elenora (Young) Myerscough. He was born on January 2, 1922, in Taylorville. He went to work at a very young age. He worked as an engineer for many years on the Chicago & Illinois Midland Railroad (C&IM) retiring in 1986. He also worked and farmed some land just north of Springfield. Joseph proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during WWII. Joe enjoyed watching NASCAR and Professional Bull Riding, and working outside in his yard.
Joseph married Dorothy Mudd in Maxwell, KY on October 30, 1939. They shared 74 years together until she preceded him in death in 2014. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law David Bryan, brothers; Gerald and Duane Myerscough, and a sister Mary Ellen Constantin.
Surviving Joseph are his children; Larry (Marilyn) Myerscough of Purcell, OK, Judy Bryan of Springfield, 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, brothers Merle Myerscough of Charleston, IL, Marion “Mike” Myerscough of Springfield, sisters: Margaret Ann Tazioli of Highland Park, IL, Theresa Wiseman of Taylorville, IL, and Carol Huber of Hillsboro, IL, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL, 62711. The family will receive guests on Friday, June 5, 2015 at the funeral home from 9 am until the time of funeral service celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey Grant at 10:30 am.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be performed by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joseph’s name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
