John Perry Bell

John Perry Bell, 75, of Springfield, passed away on August 25, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1948 in Columbia, Louisiana to John Dixon Bell and Laverne Beck. John married Gwendolyn McKay on December 18, 1971 in Dallas, Texas and she survives.

Mr. Bell is also survived by three children: Felicia Renee Bell of Mineral Point, WI., Peter Allen Bell and Rachel Bell (Terry) Smith both of Madison, WI., and four grandchildren: Brandon Talerico, Rylee Bell, Antonia Bell and Grace Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Dixie Laverne Cook.

John graduated from the University of Louisiana Monroe with a degree in English Literature and he also graduated with his Masters of Divinity from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. He started his ministry in Argylle, Wisconsin and expanded it to include Sheboygan Falls and Waupaca. He enjoyed reading, watching movies, attending plays and operas and cooking Cajun food.

Cremation rites were accorded. The family will host a memorial service at 11:00 am on September 16, 2023 at Springfield First United Methodist Church, 2941 South Koke Mill Road, Springfield, Illinois 62711.
