Janet Rae Massey, 80, of Springfield died at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. Janet was born on October 10, 1927 in Springfield, the daughter of Stewart and Margaret Casey McCutcheon; they preceded her in death. She married Robert T. "Bob" Massey, Sr. in May of 1948; he preceded her in death in January 1993. Janet was a graduate of Springfield High School's class of 1945. She began her career working for Roland's Department Store during high school, and was later employed at Allis-Chalmers. After becoming a homemaker she was later employed at Franklin Life Insurance Company. She was a member of the "Better Breather's" at Memorial Medical Center. She loved Big Band music, swing dancing with her husband, and enjoyed watching old movies. Janet was a life-long member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Kurt Massey; two sisters, Helen Riley and Margaret Brennan; and one brother, Robert McCutcheon. She is survived by two sons, Robert T. "Tom" (wife, Camille) Massey, Jr. of Springfield and the Rev. Dr. David K. (wife, Vicki) Massey of Plantation, FL; two grandchildren, Matt Massey of Springfield and Anna Massey of St. Louis, MO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Merrill officiant. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
