James (Jim) T. Bartlett Sr., age 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, at St. John’s Hospital. Jim was born on October 13th, 1932, in Springfield, IL, to Robert S. and Mary C. (Markey) Bartlett.
Jim attended Piper Elementary School and Lanphier High School. After attending high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War in 1952. On May 7th, 1955, he married his first and only love, Nancy L. Willis. He worked for International Shoe Company for 15 years, and retired from Eaton Corporation after 32 years. He was a proud member of Knights of Columbus and an active member of St. Aloysius parish. Jim enjoyed baseball, basketball, bowling and gardening. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob, Don, and Larry Bartlett; and his sisters, Mary Council, Helen Patterson, Judy Bolton, and Pat Heine.
Jim is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nancy, and their four sons, James (partner, Ivy Hansen) Bartlett, Jerry (Courtney) Bartlett, Jeff (Tracy) Bartlett, and Jay (Kim) Bartlett; his grandchildren, Jason (Melanie) Buchanan, Katie (Richie) Pottier, Jessica Bartlett, Kyle Bartlett, Brennan Bartlett, Mackenzie Bartlett, and Alexa (partner, Connor Fosselius) Bartlett; his great-grandchildren, Declan and Nuala Buchanan, and Louis Pottier; and his siblings, Donna Bartlett, Ed (Karen) Bartlett, Alice (Charles) Paoni, and Nancy Dean. Jim also leaves behind several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 East Sangamon Ave., Springfield, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Rev. George Nelikunnel officiating.
Jim will be laid to rest at Calvary cemetery with military honors provided.
