He was born on October 17, 1935 in Springfield, the son of the late Frank J. and Frances (Quinn) Weitzel. He married Teresa Brown on May 23, 1959 in Springfield and she survives.
Mr. Weitzel had worked as a control room operator for City Water, Light, and Power (CWLP) in Springfield, retiring in 1998.
Besides his wife Teresa, he is survived by his 3 sons, James (wife Susan) Weitzel of Jacksonville, IL, Robert (wife Tina) Weitzel of Lake Petersburg, IL, and John (wife Laurie) Weitzel of Atlanta, GA; his 2 grandsons, Dr. Robert (companion Chris) Weitzel, Jr. of Springfield, and Christopher (wife Carrie) Weitzel of Denver, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 rothers Eugene Weitzel and Frank Weitzel, Jr.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Private Military Honors will be provided at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
