Guy Stanley Blaszak

Guy Stanley Blaszak, 67, of Glenview, Illinois, peacefully passed away on December 28, 2022 at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview. He was born on June 23, 1955 in Elgin, Illinois to Stanley P. Blaszak and Maryann Domski. Guy married Julie Salefski and she survives.

Mr. Blaszak is also survived by his children: August and Elsa Blaszak and several cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and his cousin Mark Domski.

Guy was a licensed insurance underwriter/broker and over his long career, worked at major insurers including AIG, Traveler’s, Zurich, Crum and Forster, as well as Heil and Heil Insurance Agency in Evanston Illinois. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lake in the Hills and a parishioner at St Norbert’s Catholic Church in Northbrook IL.

He married and became a father later in life and was highly-involved as a basketball and baseball coach, Boy Scout leader and other activities for his children He was a gifted baritone singer and delighted family and friends with renditions of Broadway classics and the Star Spangled Banner. Guy was an avid wine collector, fisherman and accomplished cook and grill master, but his most treasured activity was being a father. He was hands-on and all-in raising his children and created a loving home environment filled with family traditions, laughter and unconditional love He was at his best during family trips to Door County, Wisconsin, San Diego, Cape Cod and Florida. He was an only child, but grew up extremely close with his cousins who were like brothers to him: Greg Domski, Steve (and wife Irene) Domski and Mark Domski.

Guy suffered a debilitating stroke in 2015 and lived his remaining days at Glenview Terrace Nursing Home where he received outstanding and compassionate care. He read several books each week and cheered on his beloved Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks. He bravely endured the ravages of stroke and never lost hope that he would someday return home to his family.

A celebratory funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 2023 at St Norbert’s Catholic Church, 1809 Walters Ave, Northbrook IL 60062. Visitation with family begins at 9 am and the service starts at 10 am. This event will be live streamed and a link to the service will be provided closer to the date.
