He was born on October 9, 1938, in Eleva, WI, the son of Eddie Alexander and Beulah Jane (Caucutt) Hanson. George married Jeanne L. Piscitelli on June 8, 1963.
George earned his bachelor’s degree from Northern IL University and his masters from Sangamon State University (presently U.I.S.). He went on to teach for District 186, retiring in 1993. George was a member of Laurel Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, vegetable gardening, playing poker, bridge with his friends, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Scott Hanson (2009) and Greg Hanson (March 2024); brothers, Peter Hanson and sister-in-law, Sue, and Paul Hanson; brother-in-law, Ted; and parents-in-law, Ted and Mary.
George is survived by his wife, Jeanne Hanson of Athens; daughter-in-law, Michelle Hanson of Idaho Falls, ID; and grandchildren, Megan Hanson of Carpinteria, CA, and Caleb (fiancée, Grace Carvo) Hanson of Idaho Falls, ID.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering and Service: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Laurel United Methodist Church, 631 S. Grand Ave. W., Springfield, followed by the Service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Kent Lolling officiating.
