Genevieve M. Hughes, 86, of Springfield, died at 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born on July 9, 1921 in Springfield, the daughter of John S. and Mary Genevieve Glennon Buckles. Genevieve later married John Hughes Jr. They have all preceded her in death, as well as her daughter Genevieve A. Hughes who died in 2006, and two brothers. Genevieve graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and then became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for many years as an LPN at McFarland Zone Center in Springfield before retiring in 1977. Genevieve enjoyed playing bingo, casinos, and traveling. She is survived by her daughter: Kathleen Hughes of Springfield; one sister: Helene Rachford of Springfield; one sister-in-law: Lucille Buckles of Merritt Island, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 8:30 a.m. until the time of a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence Avenue, Springfield, with Rev. Michael Haag celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family of Genevieve M. Hughes is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
