Charles E. Pickering

Charles E. “Chuck” Pickering, 85, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away at his home after a short illness.

Chuck was born in Springfield, February 16, 1928 the son of Walter and Emma Sanksen Pickering. He married Nancy L. Watkins in 1950 in Springfield, and she preceded him in death in 1956. He married Janet B. MacKinlay on November 26, 1958 and she survives.

He is also survived by his children; Mark D. (wife Donna) Pickering of Springfield, Connie L. (husband Henry) Chilton of Alexander, Jon L. (wife Shelley) Goins of Springfield, and Kim S. (husband John) Livingston, of Fairborn, OH. , 6 grandchildren; Abigail L. Chilton, Nathan T. Chilton, Alexander J. Goins, Kristine N., J. Douglas and Jason E. Livingston, 3 great grandchildren; Tyler J., Kalleigh N. Munoz and Brandon Roche Livingston, 3 step-grandchildren; John R., Chrissy, and Michael. There are several nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

Chuck attended Springfield High School and then served in the United States Navy 1946-1948. He earned the American Area WW II Victory Medal.

He was employed by Sangamo Electric Co. for 27 years and then with Sangamon Towers for 17 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of the American Legion Post#32 and the Sangamon county Trail Riders for several years.

He was loving, kind, warm hearted and gentle man. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by many.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. where a visitation will be on Monday April 29, 2013 from 12 noon until 1 PM. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Monday at Camp Butler National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Memorial Medical Center Foundation 701 N. 1st St. Springfield, IL 62701 or a charity of choice.
