He was born on Nov. 1, 1922 in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late William C. and Gladys (Hedrick) Woods. He married Doris Wieties on Nov. 24, 1945 in Springfield.
Mr. Woods served in the U. S. Air Force from 1940 to 1945. During WW II he was stationed in India and Burma as an aerial photographer for the 9th Photo Squadron. He worked as a computer systems analyst and retired from the state of Illinois in 1984. He enjoyed flying and became a private pilot in the 1960’s. He also enjoyed photography and sailing but was most fond of his close-knit family.
He is survived by his wife Doris of Springfield; 6 children- Mark Woods of Springfield, Todd Woods of Springfield, Carolyn “Susie” Jones of Roscoe, IL, Marilyn (husband Hugh) Harris of Springfield, Jeff (wife Karen) Woods of Williamsville and Mindy Woods of Springfield, 5 grandchildren- Woodsman “Woody” Jones (wife Kristin) of Romeoville, August “Gus” Jones (wife Aleta) of Springfield, Amanda Woods of Springfield, Dylan Woods of Boulder Colorado and Skylar Woods of Columbia Missouri. 3 great-grandchildren- Olivia, Morgan and Delilah Jones of Romeoville and a brother Joseph (wife Fe) Woods of Los Angeles, CA.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, William, Clarence, and Gerald Woods, and a son-in-law Nolan Jones.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, where an informal gathering will be held on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 starting at 5 pm followed by a brief Celebration of Life. Cremation rites were accorded.
