Beverly Jean Chiles, 84, of Springfield, IL died Tuesday, August 25 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Springfield, daughter of Philip and Mildred Spaulding. She married William E. Chiles, Jr. on December 25, 1947. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother and her grandfather, Willis J. Spaulding.
She is survived by two children – Philip E. Chiles (wife Peggy) and Toby Ty Chiles (wife Sharon), both of Springfield. She is also survived by five grandchildren – Heather Wade (sig. other Tim Shane), Carie Cycholl (husband Doug), Jeremy Chiles (sig. other Jen Talbot), Lee Chiles (wife Jenny) and Andrew Chiles. She is survived by six great grandchildren – Megan Wade, Kaleb and Dakota Chiles, Levi and Luke Cycholl and Rachael Chiles.
Her first foster child, and “third son”, is Richard Shartzer (wife Beth) who has three children, Kristy, Jason and Ross and four grandchildren.
Until her death she had maintained contact with many of the children she helped raise and organized a foster children’s Christmas party each year. One foster son, Robert Venable, lived with her until 2012.
Jean worked for the Department of Children and Family Services as a Foster Parent Support Specialist until last year when she retired. Over the years she received many awards for her work with foster children.
She volunteered many years with Sangamon County Habitat for Humanity. She attended Cherry Hills Baptist Church.
Visitation: The Chiles family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, IL.
Funeral Service: The Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015 with Pastor Brian Wilmarth officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
