Bernice O'Brien

Bernice "Tillie" O'Brien, 86, of Springfield, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at St. John's Hospital. Bernice was born March 21, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of Harry and Sadie Carlson Keck. She married Robert T. O'Brien on November 27, 1948 in Springfield. He preceded her in death. Bernice graduated from Ursuline Academy and Illinois Business College. She worked at C&IM Railroad for 10 years before working at the Springfield City Employees Credit Union for 25 years. Bernice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Her life was her family. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Genevieve Tavine. Bernice is survived by three sons, Robert (wife, Kathy) O'Brien of Springfield, David (wife, Kayla) O'Brien of Springfield and Larry (wife, Shawn) O'Brien of Athens; one daughter, Kathleen (husband, Dennis) McCaddon of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, Bob, Bill, Joe, Tyler, Tad, Nicole, Jordan, Connor, Baillie, Kimberly and Amber; five great-grandchildren, Skylar, Sophie, John, Noah and Avery; a sister, Barbara McDermott; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, celebrant.
