Steven F. Sternberg, 75, of Suffern, NY passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022. Steve was a loving father to Amy and Matthew Hough of New City, NY and Eric and Casey Sternberg of White Plains, NY. Family was extremely important to him and he treasured time spent with his three adoring grandchildren, Samantha, Alexa, and Benjamin. Steve is also survived by his best and most loyal friend, Robin Nager, with whom he spent most of his time.
In his free time, Steve enjoyed playing basketball and was a master on the court. He was also known for his “moves” on the dance floor, where he was typically the first one on and last one off.
One of the greatest loves of his life was his profession. Steve, also known as “Professor Sternberg,” spent his life educating, inspiring, and connecting with students of all ages. He worked at PS 189 for several years as a 5th grade teacher, conflict resolution counselor, and Assistant Principal. Steve also worked as an Adjunct Professor in the Business department at Monroe College in the Bronx for many years. A few years after retirement, he returned to teaching as an Adjunct Professor at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY. His passion for teaching never waned and he remained in contact with so many of his students throughout his life.
Steve may be most known among family and friends for his beautiful, heartfelt, and often corny, poems. As an accomplished writer, he published several poetry books and wrote song lyrics for school plays. His most notable writings, however, were poems he wrote for every occasion, every birthday, anniversary, holiday, event. He wrote poems about social justice, historical events, and celebrities, but the most meaningful poems were the ones he wrote for his loved ones.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 19th, 2022 11:00 AM at Temple Beth Sholom, 228 New Hempstead Road, New City NY.
