Barry Lewis passed away peacefully at home on September 19, 2024, at the age of 82. Barry is survived by his wife, Helene; his children, Eric (Shira) and Marne (Paul); his step-children, David (Deborah) and Cary; and his grandchildren, Jesse, Shawn, Samuel, Brynn, Jonah, and Dylan. He is also survived by his sister, Judith Flanders; his sister-in-law, Paula Bellack; and his nieces and nephews, Allison (Shane), Danielle (Jason), Aaron (Julie), and Judi. He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Bobbi) Epstein Lewis; his parents, Sarah Rennert Lewis and Jesse Lewis; and his brothers and sister-in-law, Gerard Flanders, Jerry Epstein, and Margie Epstein.
Barry was born and grew up in Syracuse, NY, and graduated from Syracuse University in 1964 with a B.S. in Communications. During his time at Syracuse University, he became the sports director of the campus radio station, WAER. Barry spent the majority of his career first working at Katz Communications, where he rose through the ranks to become a senior executive. After leaving Katz in 1986, Barry joined Sandler Capital Management as a partner until his retirement in 1996.
The most important thing to Barry was his family, with whom he spent a great amount of time, both at home and traveling. He attended many sporting and life cycle events for his grandchildren and taught them all how to drive in parking lots, usually at the ripe age of 13.
Barry lived his life by never judging people by the color of their skin, their net worth, their religion, or any other criteria, other than whether or not that person had a good soul. His generosity came naturally to him, as he knew no other way. Whether for individuals or organizations, Barry believed in stepping up and doing the right thing. He will be missed dearly, not only by his family but by all the people and organizations that he supported.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM at New City Jewish Center, 47 Old Schoolhouse Rd, New City, NY 10956. Interment will follow at Gates of Zion Cemetery, 670 Saddle River Road, Airmont, NY 10952.
