Dorothy J. Zappa, also known as “Tootsie” and sometimes “Dottie" passed away at the age of 89 years old on December14th, 2024. She was a resident of Lynnfield, MA and a former resident of Brooksville, FL. Dorothy was born and raised in Astoria, Queens, New York on July 4th, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Hoffmann and Katherine (Schaefer) Hoffmann.
She graduated from Bryant High School in Astoria, New York where she lived for most of her young life. Dorothy spent over 50 years happily married to the late Dominick J. Zappa whom she married in April 1954.
Dorothy worked as a switchboard operator and bank clerk until she retired.
She was an avid reader and had a passion for crocheting, gardening, and shopping on QVC and the home shopping network. She also enjoyed spending time with her family including her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her son Michael Zappa and his wife Tina, daughter Annemarie Addonizio and her late husband Frank, and son John Zappa and his wife Cindy, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Dorothy is also survived by her sister Millie and her late husband Jake, sister Eleanor and her husband Bob, brother Edward and his wife Denise. She was predeceased by two of her brothers Albert and Bougie.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to celebrate the life of Dorothy. Visiting hours will be held 2:00pm to 5:30pm, Thursday January 2nd, 2025, at Merritt Funeral Home located at 4095 Mariner Boulevard in Spring Hill, FL.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Friday January 3rd, 2025, with a burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
