Virginia “Ginny” Dayle Vaagen Vaughn passed away at the age of 74 on June 10, 2016 in Colville, WA after a short battle with advanced cancer. Ginny was born to Liz and Bud Vaagen on May 30, 1942 in Sandpoint, ID.
Ginny graduated from Colville High School in 1960, and married Dudley Vaughn. They moved to Fieldale, VA for several years, and Ginny came to know and love the Vaughn family residing there. Their first child, Joanie, was born in Virginia, and they moved back to Colville when Ginny was pregnant with their son Tim. After this move, Colville would remain Ginny’s home for the remainder of her life…a span of 50+ years.
While raising their children, Ginny owned and ran a secretarial and accounting business for several years in the area. In 1981, Ginny and Dudley divorced. She developed a love of antiques and opened ‘Ginny’s Barn’, which was a favorite shopping spot for many antique lovers in the area.
In 2000, Ginny had a brain aneurysm, a life threatening event which forever changed the course of her life. After recovering from the aneurysm, she continued to have significant health issues, but she was very well aware of how fortunate she was to have survived 16 years after the aneurysm, and to be a part of her grandchildren’s lives as they grew up. Despite the many challenges, she remained upbeat and positive, and enjoyed the simpler but more important things in life.
In 2012, Ginny moved to Parkview Assisted Living, where she met many people that became family to her. She remained at Parkview Assisted Living throughout her illness with cancer until she passed.
Ginny had many interests. She was an excellent seamstress, loved to garden, and was well known for her wonderful cooking. She passed many of these traits on to her family. Her biggest passion was for her family, and her most treasured moments were those spent with her kids and grandkids.
Ginny was preceded in death by her mother and father, a newborn son, and a grandson. Ginny is survived by her children, Joanie Christian (husband Jim) of Colville, WA; Tim Vaughn (partner Tracy Main) of Colville, WA; 5 grandchildren, Ryan Christian, Drew Christian, Rachelle Prouty, Taryn Main, Baylee Main; 2 great grandchildren Avery and Bentley Prouty, sisters Carol Vaagen and Priscilla Vaagen, brother Wayne Vaagen (wife Karen), numerous nieces and nephews, her Vaughn relatives in Virginia, and many cherished friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Parkview Assisted Living and Hospice/NE Washington Health Programs, who went above and beyond in their care and love for Virginia.
A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 11 am, at the Colville Community Church at 930 S. Elm in Colville, WA.
Arrangements under the direction of NEPTUNE SOCIETY - Spokane, Spokane, WA.
