Susan Diane Collins was born in Spokane, Washington in October 1954 to Harold and Helen Dahlen. She passed away at home on August 27th, 2022 surrounded by her loving and closest family and friends. Sue is survived by her husband Rusty (married in September 1976), daughters Stacie (Andrew, children Erik and Ryan), Mirinda (Doug, children Madison, Hailey, and James), and brother Mark (Nancy).
Sue attended Spokane schools from kindergarten through high school, and graduated from Ferris High School. She attended Spokane Falls Community College where she studied drama.
Sue started her career in the communications and phone company industry back when Pacific Northwest Bell was the original phone company in Spokane. She remained in the industry for the remainder of her career. She went from working for PNB, to USWest, Qwest, CenturyLink, and finally Lumen Technologies as a Business Account Manager. Sue worked in the industry for 40 plus years and planned to retire when she turned 70. She enjoyed her work and all the friendships that were made.
Sue is brighter than words can describe and the most positive soul. She was the first person to volunteer and the last to leave. She loved and supported all who crossed her path. Sue would talk with anyone, and enjoyed getting to know new people. If you needed a friend she was there. She enjoyed helping anyone move and would offer her help and truck anytime. She was always positive and lended a listening ear to anyone who needed it. She spent time helping her girls out and assisting with every event they participated in. She was a supporter for the local ALS Chapter and was part of the Inland Northwest Dance Association for many years.
Her hobbies include jogging/running with her dogs, sewing, tap dancing, kempo karate, cross country skiing, bunco, and watching football and cheering on her Seattle Seahawks. Sue participated in every Bloomsday except 1984 due to giving birth! (She has the t-shirt but would never wear it, since she did not run that year!!!)
Her last Bloomsday was a virtual run this May. She participated in the Saint Paddy's Five run every year that she could as well. She ran marathons and spent every Christmas season in the kitchen making her favorite scandinavian cookies to pass onto her closest family and friends. She loved baking these cookies and every year her cookie count got higher and higher.
Sue held a special place in her heart for her nieces, nephew, cousins, daughters, their spouses and those closest to her. Most of all she loved her grandchildren. She wanted more
than anything to be given another 20 years to spend with her grandchildren and children.
We want to give a special thanks to Joanie who assisted our mother/wife/friend during her final days and hours. We would also like to thank all the family and friends who stopped by to tell her how much she meant to them and we meant to her during her last few days with us. She was so blessed and loved by all of you.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to the ALS Service Organization for Spokane and Northern Idaho (ALSSO.org) in her name and in honor of her friend Nancy and her husband Rick (who passed away from ALS). If you would like to donate to another group Sue was also very fond of the Inland Northwest Dance Association (INDAspokane.com) and Newby-ginnings-Veterans services (Newbeginnings.org)
A Party in honor of Sue will be on October 23rd at 10421 N Jimmy in the Sundance Meadows 55+ Community clubhouse at 12pm noon. We ask that anyone looking to celebrate Sue join us in your favorite football attire or Seahawks colors. The Seahawks game will be on. Sue did not want anyone to mourn her loss but instead she wanted a party in remembrance of her. We plan to do just that and celebrate her as if she made it to her 70th.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AdvantageSouthHill.com for the Collins family.
