Scott Middleton

On the morning of January 10, 2020 (Eric) Scott Middleton passed away suddenly in Nine Mile Falls, Washington. He was 56 years old. Scott was born on June 29, 1963 in La Jolla, California. He was raised in Rancho Santa Fe, California and attended the University of Santa Barbara, earning a degree in mathematics and economics. He met his wife of 29 years, Barbara, in Southern California. Scott and Barb moved to Nine Mile Falls in 1995, where they raised their 2 children, Kenna and Mitchell.

Scott had a big heart for anyone who crossed his path. He loved and laughed with ease, often providing humor to liven up any situation. He was most passionate about three things: his family, running, and soccer. He sought every opportunity to be together with his family, whether to work on one of their many projects, solve a math challenge, discuss a podcast, watch a Zags game or go on a group run. Scott honed his passion for running on the trails of Riverside State Park. At the time of his passing, he was training for his first 100K race in May. He ran 24 Bloomsday races, many of them as a second seed competitor, and a dozen Spokane Marathons. He loved the game of soccer, having played at the collegiate level, and shared this passion with his children and their teams as the soccer coach for 12 years, and more recently as a soccer official.

Scott is preceded in death by his father, Marshall; mother Cynthia, and brother Mark. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Kenna Welsch and her husband Alden, son Mitchell, sister Ann, twin sister Susie, brother Drew, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Scott’s Life is planned for Saturday, 2/8/20 at 1:00 pm at the River City Foursquare Church located at 708 W. Nora Avenue in Spokane, Washington, 99205.
