Robert Parker Angell, "Robbie" to all, left us on Saturday, July 29, 2018, in Spokane, Washington. His heart was weak, but full of love for his family, friends and everything that life brought forth to him. He is finally at peace with this world.
He was born on December 4, 1970, in Spokane to Brusan (Rhoda)Wells. As a baby, he was lovingly adopted and brought into the family of Bob and Vicky Angell, to join his new sister and brother, Laurie and Brad.
Robbie attended schools in Boise and was a proud Boise High School "Brave." He was an excellent athlete and loved rugby, football, basketball, track and skiing. Summers were spent in McCall, at the family cabin on Payette Lake, fishing, water skiing and searching for mischief with his brother (normally a successful endeavor). Possibly his favorite pastime was hunting anything that flew or moved with his dad and Uncle Dean Pierose. He often said that the safari he spent in Africa with his father was among the happiest times ever. Oh, he also loved the Grateful Dead 24/7!
After high school, he attended the University of Idaho, where he was a "Beta". Unfortunately, college life offered a bit too many extracurricular activities which he pursued with vigor; however grades are awarded for excellence in the classroom, not in the pubs.
Robbie and Debbie Shanks were married in 1997, but with sadness, the marriage did not last. Shortly thereafter he left Boise, moving to Coeur d'Alene to seek his fortunes in the mountains and lakes of north Idaho.
When not working, he spent as much time as he could on the ski slopes of Silver Mountain, and in the summer fly fished the rivers and streams of this beautiful area.
However, his life was filled with ups and downs. Sometimes he put on the gloves and won the fight; other times he was on the losing side. Still, he was desperately searching for some meaning and direction to his life.
Working indoors was not an option as he loved nature and the outdoors. One summer he was a camp "grunt" in an Alaskan fishing lodge. Another, as a landscaper, a talent he pursued all of his life. His last days were spent on a beautiful little farm near Spokane.
But, above all he loved people, and he loved helping them. He was a friend to a fault, but it was his way. Robbie was a big Teddy Bear and an admitted "schmoozer" for sure. He could charm the shoes off a pony! A large part of his time was spent in support groups, helping others who had crossed the line as he had so many times. He became a big brother and mentor to many.
So, we bid goodbye to Robbie far too soon. Besides too many friends to acknowledge, he leaves his large, loving family: father, Bob Angell and mother, Vicky Stull; stepmother, Mickey Angell; birthmother, Brusan (Rhoda) Wells; sister, Laurie Wolfe (Rich); brother Brad Angell (Wilma); stepsister, Sherry Lunstrum (Joel); nieces Amy DeBruler, Allison Wolfe, and Violet Angell; nephew, Simon Angell; aunt, Martha Peterson; uncle, Jeff Pierose; aunt, Pat Pierose; grandmother, Betty Nelson Rhoda; aunt, Donna Rhoda; cousins, Jeff, Jorn and Gunnar Harvey, Leslie Holdsworth and Dean Pierose III.
Should you wish, donations in Robbie's name may be made to the Lutheran Family Services, Spokane, Washington, Ducks Unlimited or Make a Wish Foundation.
A celebration of Robbie's life, with wonderful help from Sharon Finnerty, will be held in Coeur d'Alene on Saturday, August 11 at 1:00, 618 E. Wallace Ave. A second celebration of life will be held in Boise at a later date with the time and location to be announced.
