He had an adventurous spirit when he was younger, and it lead him to do things like surfing, building skateboards, and working on his beloved Canary Yellow ,’66 Chevelle Super Sport.
In August of 1972, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served honorably for the next six years. Mike married Kathy, his wife of nearly 36 years. His three sons, his extended family, and all of his beloved dogs were his most treasured gifts. After his retirement, Mike became an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
There are so many different stories and memories that can be shared about Mike. Most would be filled with laughter and warmth, just like he was. His outgoing nature made it so easy for him to really talk to anyone about anything. Each person who was lucky enough to have crossed paths with Mike was forever taken by his friendly and compassionate personality. He shared his laughter and happiness so easily with everyone, and it was always contagious. With his friends and family, he was the voice of reason; helping those that needed support, and reminding people to slow down a little.
He will forever be remembered as a lover of the outdoors with a passion for camping, fishing, hunting, and working on his boat. He loved music, especially Eric Clapton, and could be found singing or whistling around the house most of the time. He was an avid photographer, always willing to share the beauty that he captured with whomever was around. His stories are legendary, and will continue to be shared with each passing generation.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, his children Chad (Jenny, Ethan, Cody and Tessa); Justin (Erica); and Travis (Shannon and Ashley); his sisters Cathy, Colleen, Karen, Kim and Pat; and last but certainly not least, all of his puppies: Merlin, Gandalf, and Lizzy.
If there is one thing that we can take away from our experience with Mike, one message to hold in our hearts, it is that life is filled with happy moments- you just have to choose to stop and enjoy them.
A private burial will be held June 12, 2017 at Medical Lake Veterans Cemetery.
