Michael Everett Smiley

Michael Everett Smiley passed away peacefully in Spokane, WA on June 25th, 2021, after a brief bout with cancer. Born in Seattle on Nov. 22nd, 1943 to Everett and Joy (Werst) Smiley, he attended Woodway High School in Edmonds, WA. Throughout the latter half of the 1960s, he served in the United States Air Force. It was while stationed at McCord AFB that he met and fell in love with Sharon Kathleen Blum, whom he married in 1968, and adopted her two sons from a previous marriage, Scott and Eric. Upon settling in Edmonds, they gave birth to a third son, Justin. As much as they loved that seaside town, a dream of life in the country lured the family eastward. The Smileys relocated in 1972 to rural Lincoln County, WA, where they lived until 1978. Mike worked at several manufacturing firms over the years, most notably Layrite Products Co. and Cenex Harvest States. After residing in urban Spokane from 1978 - 1992, Mike and Sharon returned to their beloved country life in Lincoln County, where they bought land and established themselves as respected members of a tight-knit community of farmers and artisans, and especially in their faith community, Spring Hill Bible Church.

Mike will be remembered for his easygoing demeanor and generous spirit, always glad to help out those in need. He lived for the outdoors, with a passion for fishing and hunting. A life-long fan of tales of the Wild West, he devoured most any film starring John Wayne or James Stewart. Mike was very fond of animals, loved Johnny Cash, gladly accepted second helpings of Rocky Road ice cream, and was grateful to have been born American.

Michael Smiley is predeceased by his wife, Sharon (2016), and is survived by his three sons: Scott (Arlington WA), Eric (Bremerton WA), Justin and his wife Darcie, and their daughter Corbin (Phoenix, AZ).

Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 9th at 10:00 AM at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home, with burial service to follow at West Greenwood Cemetery.
