Mr. Main graduated from Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, California in 1960. He attended the University of Arizona for 3 1/2 years. He was a 3-year letterman in both track and cross country. Later, he attended San Jose State College and California State University, Los Angeles.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine Miles, is father Royal C. Main and his brother Charles E. Main. He is survived by close friends, Curtis Ransford and Dorothy Mehl, both of Spokane. Also surviving him are legions of friends and acquaintances in both Spokane and California.
In Spokane throughout his adult life, he was active in track and long distance running as a competitor, official, and promoter. He competed in his last race at the age of 52. He maintained a keen interest in literature and philosophy and was a writer for various newsletters and small publications. He also wrote a book entitled "One Man's Journey".
Lawrence was an official and booster for the Community Colleges of Spokane tack and field programs for twenty years. He worked as a precinct official for County elections for five years. He volunteer at the Spokane Visitor's Center, Evergreen Elementary, and was a member on the board of directors of the Nevada Lidgerwood Neighborhood Council.
Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, in the Garden of Light.
There will be no funeral service by Mr. Main's request.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lawrence's memory to the Washington State University Athletic Foundation or Catholic Charities of Spokane.
