June Irene (Raines) (Toombs) Hopkins, age 89, passed away February 7, 2021 in Spokane, WA. She was born February 13, 1931 in Brainerd, MN. As a teenager, she worked during the summers at Yellowstone National Park. She worked many years as a horticulturist at Eastern Washington University, retiring as Lead Groundskeeper. She gave loving care to the Rose Garden, as well as the Seattle Seahawks practice field. June was a lifelong member of the AFL-CIO, and was past president of the Spokane chapter. In retirement, she was a member of AFSCME chapter 1013.
June is survived by a son, Darrell Toombs (Mary); daughter, Flora McDougall (Keith); grandchildren, Darrell Toombs II (Jill), Robert Toombs, Ben Toombs (Jennifer), Jason Wood (Conni), Aubrey Wyrick, Heather McFarlane (Duncan), Connie Ebert (Chris); great grandchildren, Darrell Toombs III, Katie Rae, Emily Atha (Kaston), Lance Toombs, Kessica Toombs, Sydni Toombs, Max Toombs, Nicholas Wood, Natilyn Mann, Alexandria Wood, Colton Wirth (Meika), Jourdyn Wyrick, Alexandria Wyrick; and great great grandchildren, Allistar, June, Maddie, Nathan and Aiden. Preceding her in death were her brother, Bill Raines; a son, Harvey Toombs; a daughter-in-law, Sherry; and a granddaughter, Kimmie.
She will be laid to rest at Pines Cemetery with her grandmother, Isabel Lytle. After February 18th, people are welcome to visit her grave for a personal remembrance.
