James "Jim" Redd passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side after recently being diagnosed with lung cancer. Born in Columbia Missouri in 1927, at age 16 he moved to California and then to Prosser Washington, where he attended Prosser High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation. He was discharged honorably after the end of World War II. Upon return he met his wife of 67 years, Ina. They started their family and moved a few times and then settled in Spokane where he went to work for and retired from the Spokesman Review. Jim served as President of the Machinist Union and the Media Credit Union. He was a machinist by trade but was a whiz building and repairing anything, especially if it had a motor. He loved salmon fishing, motorcycles and old cars, time at the lake, golfing, winters in Arizona, but his love for his family was unmeasurable. One of the most recent highlights in his life was the opportunity to take part in the Inland Northwest Honor Flight to Washington D.C with his grandson.
Towards the end of his time he cherished the moments he spent with those who came to visit. He is survived by his wife Ina; and his four children Barry (Kay) Redd, Sherry (Tim) Bennett, Terry (Margaret) Redd, Keri (Paul) Yirak, grandchild children; Tyler, Blake, Carrie, Stacey, Tara-Lynne, Desiree and numerous great and great great grandchildren, including several treasured nieces and nephews. A funeral services celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Monday September 12, 2016 at 2:00pm, at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donation be made to the Inland Northwest Honor Flight at www.inwhonorflight.org.
