Irene will be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery, Post Falls, Idaho. Irene was born and raised in Post Falls, Idaho, graduating from Post Falls High School in 1939. In August of that year, she married her neighbor, Herbert D. Howell. They were married for almost 66 years when he passed away January 21, 2005. They had three daughters, Yvonne Denton of Otis Orchards, WA, Dolores Weber (dec’d), and Diane Walker of Clarkston, WA.
Herbert was drafted into the Navy in 1945, leaving Irene to take care of a 4, 2 and 1 year-old. In November 1945, they sent him home. “Teenie” was ecstatic. She worked for File-EZ Printing for almost 25 years, with one accident, when she cut her forefinger off at the knuckle, so we only had 9 fingers to polish. She was a very caring mother and friend to all who knew her. She was known far and wide for her jokes and humor. She played the piano, organ, accordion, ukulele, banjo and guitar, and sang with her sister growing up and into their adult years. One of her greatest passions was her painting. Irene loved to travel with Herb and two of her favorite places to eat were the Old Country Buffet and Timber Creek Buffet.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Denton (Patrick) and Diane Walker; grandchildren, Craig (Kin) Johnson, Mark, Roberta (Duane) Cuffin, Bryan Schmauder, Kirk (Cindy) Schmauder, Cordette (Kevin) Campbell, Stanton (Ruth) Walker, and Daelynn (Steve) Knoll. She left behind 19 great-grandchildren, 4 great- great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Herbert, her parents, Ralph and Icie Fisher of Post Falls, sister, Ruth Grant of Post Falls, Idaho, her brother Dennis Ralph Fisher of Redmond, WA, and one grandson, Nathan Walker of Tennessee.
Special thanks goes to Guardian Angel Homes and Hospice of North Idaho.
