Passed away in Spokane Valley, WA, on August 24, 2016. He was born in Chadron, NE, on May 4, 1922 to Harry L. and Theresa Jones. Harry joined the Army in 1943 and served in France, Italy and North Africa during WWII. After completing college courses, Harry taught school briefly in Rapid City, SD. He worked as a fire fighter, welder and construction foreman before going on to work at Keyport Naval Torpedo Station in Bremerton, WA, as an ordnance systems inspector, a role from which he retired in 1977. Following retirement Harry relocated to the Spokane area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, horse shoes, horse racing and trapshooting, gardening, and was a life-long learner.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ellen Mae Jones; his parents; four sisters, Jewell Roby, Gwendola McFetridge, Wilma Simons, and Katherine Goeckner; and four brothers, Lester, Chester, Robert, and Harvey Jones. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families who remember the loving time spent together over the years.
A visitation will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N Monroe, Spokane, WA, Saturday, September 10, 2016, beginning at 10 AM. A reception will begin at 1 PM with funeral services to follow at 3 PM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane, WA.
