Husband, Father, Grandfather, Teacher, Coach, Soldier and Athlete. Bob was born in Kamiah, Idaho on July 3, 1929 to Mary and Oral Young. He was raised by his mother and uncles in the small town. He was married in May 1952 to Helen Grimm from Orofino, Idaho. Bob graduated with a BA in Education from Eastern Washington State College. He served in Korea in the 7th armored division from 1952-1954. After returning from war, Bob taught school and coached football and baseball in Hunters, Tekoa and Colville, WA. He was dedicated to referring basketball and football for over 30 years participating in A, AA, and AAA tournaments. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 58 years; three daughters Eileen Rhodes (Ron), Connie Young, and Jodi Inman (Marc); and his grandson, Christopher Rhodes. Additional members of his family surviving are two sisters Vera Killmar and Violet Biggers; his brother, Don Young (Bobbie); as well as several step grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Before his illness Bob enjoyed hunting with his dogs and salmon fishing. He passed away on October 27, 2010 after a long battle with COPD. A memorial serivce will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 1:00PM at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
