LuAnn K Brown, 62 of Spokane, WA passed unexpectedly and went on to her higher dimension October 12, 2018. Lu was born in Belmond, Iowa to Carroll & Shirley Morris on March 13, 1956. She grew up in the small Iowa town of Meservey. On May. 17,1977 she married Darrell G. Brown from Algona, Iowa, her loving spouse of the next four decades.
Twice named Washington State’s Social Worker of the Year (2001, 2006) Lu spent her life in service to others. LuAnn was a beloved Teacher, Senior Lecturer, and the Associate Director of Field Education at Eastern Washington University School of Social Work in Cheney, WA.
After earning her Bachelors of Arts in Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa in 1979 she and Darrell moved from Iowa to Spokane, WA on January 1,1980. There they welcomed and raised their most joyful gift to each other, their son Eli who was born in 1989.
While working in various capacities on social programs primarily with The Children’s Alliance of Spokane, she earned her Masters of Social Work in 1996 from Eastern Washington University. There she manifested a career that helped change the lives of countless students, colleagues and citizens of the society she worked so tirelessly to serve.
Lu was a fearless advocate of public policy and social justice. Her passion for improving the lives of others was surpassed only by her passion for her family.
Survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Darrell and their only son Elijah, her parents Carroll & Vicki Morris of Litchfield Park AZ, Her Brother Rusty Morris and Sister Kay (Jim) Zahn of Tempe, AZ, Sister Michelle (Jeremy) Rojas, Brother Michael (Susie) Morris of Litchfield Park, AZ. Along with bonus (step siblings) Rick (Angie) Kinseth, Laurie Steenblock & Kim Kinseth, all of Belmond, IA.
She is survived also by many loving in-laws in the Brown family, over 30 nieces & nephews from both families and a host of long-time friends from grade school to college, neighbors and colleagues.
Lu was preceded in death by her loving mother Shirley (Morris) Rice.
Services will be held on Monday October 22, 2018 at 11:00 at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N Pines Rd, Spokane, WA 99206
A further celebration of her life will be held on the Campus of Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA at a later date.
