Age 99
Her goal was 99 years old. SHE MADE IT! Betty grew up in the small community of Barford, Saskatchewan, Canada, with her teen years in Aylsham, Saskatchewan. Her 3 children are Karen (Doug) Spokane, Arlene (Texas) and Bob (Deceased). She had 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
Betty helped with many projects during her life. Gathering food, clothing and furniture for homeless people was something she did while living in Arizona. She always found ways to help those in need after moving to Spokane. She was a meat wrapper for Safeway for many years. During that time and after retirement, you could find her working on a project to help someone. She enjoyed visiting with the home bound while delivering Meals on Wheels. Her love of cooking kept many people fed over the years.
With her love of knitting and crocheting, she donated many winter hats to the homeless over the years. Her final knitting project at age 97 was a baby blanket for the upcoming birth of her great, great grandson, Liam, now 9 months old.
At Valley Sr. Center, she volunteered from 1973 to 2020. Cooking for functions, providing snacks, organizing events, etc. kept her busy with the senior center and with Millwood Presbyterian church groups. A favorite activity at the senior center was teaching the Black Hawk waltz during ballroom dancing time. She was granted a free membership at the center for all her years of volunteering.
In later years you could find her playing BINGO 3 to 4 times a week. Playing BINGO and visiting with people meant as much to her as winning. She was always on the go before Covid made all of us home bound. She will be greatly missed.
A Memorial service will be Monday, June 28th, 2:30 p.m., Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane 99210-2215 would be greatly appreciated. Small reception to follow.
