Al was born in Spokane, WA, and spent his very happy childhood in Walla Walla, WA, along with his two brothers Chuck and Rob. After graduating high school, he spent one year at Whitman College and also worked part-time at a radio station, where he found a love for broadcasting. He spent the next two years in the Navy working as a signal man on the good ole USS Lexington ship. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Al enrolled at Eastern Washington University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Radio/Television Communications. He worked as a radio DJ in Spokane for more than 35 years. Al loved entertaining his radio audience, loved the music he played and all the great friends he made along the way! He also enjoyed playing music for weddings and parties where he had just as much fun as the guests. When radio became more syndicated and less personal, he was introduced to the Environmental industry where he spent the next 20-plus years working up until less than a month before his death. Al was an amazingly happy guy who absolutely loved life and lived it to the fullest! He had a fun and interesting life, which led to lot of stories. He loved telling those stories, all kinds of stories--one of his greatest joys was making people laugh! He loved all sports, played basketball, softball, and golf. He was good at coaching others in those same sports and always enjoyed being a spectator for any and all sports. He was a loyal Eastern, WSU, Zags and Seahawks fan! Al met his wife Linda, the love of his life, while attending EWU- they married following her graduation and had two wonderful sons. He was a loving and loyal family guy that adored his boys. He loved coaching their teams, being involved in their school and scouting activities when they were younger and just spending time with them both as kiddos and as adults. Al loved the water and boating--Adult times included some amazing trips, golf outings and lots of water activities!! He adored his 3 Grandkids and spent as much time with them as he could. His family and friends meant the world to him, and he meant the world to all of them!! Al is survived by his wife Linda---Son Shawn Wetzel (Charmane); Grandson Niki Wetzel (20); Son Derek Wetzel (Crystal), Grandchildren Brookie (12) and Ryder (8); Judy Wetzel-sister-in-law; Nephews Scott Wetzel, Chris Wetzel and families; and Peter Bianchi.
