Bill was born on October 3, 1931 in Union City, NJ. He was the son of the late William Henry Meyer, Sr. and Julia Meyer. He graduated from Cliffside Park High School in 1949. Bill enlisted in the US Army and served as a radio operator during the Korean War earning 3 bronze stars, a United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) in 1956. Bill graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and worked at Picatinny Arsenal in design and development for 35 years.
Bill and Betty lived in Sparta, NJ for 60 years raising their family and engaging in the community. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a Grand Knight. He was an active member of the Milton Golden Age Club before moving to Cedar Crest Senior Living Community. Bill was an avid woodworker, model train enthusiast and enjoyed playing cards and rooting for the Giants. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Bill was known for his sense of humor and quick wit.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Ann Meyer; along with four daughters Laurie Carr of Hamburg, NJ, Catherine Till of Highland Lakes, NJ, Susan Vellocido of Woodbridge, VA and Debra Meyer of Plymouth, MI; seven grandchildren Melissa Kral, Christine DelPolito, Nicholas Carr, Amanda Vellocido, Sean Till, Maxwell Colis and Bennett Colis; two great grandchildren, Brielle Kral and Gerard DelPolito; and brother, Brian Meyer of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judith Shirven.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30am Friday, May 20th at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5635 Berkshire Valley Rd. Oak Ridge. The family will be receiving friends beginning at 10:30am.
