He was born on October 22, 1944 and grew up in Kearny, New Jersey. He settled in the Lake Shawnee section of Jefferson Township where he lived with his family for a number of years, and then moved to Cream Ridge, New Jersey. He spent the last decades of his life in Sparta.
He is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Ethel Austin (nee Forfar), his daughter, Anne Marie, and son, Robert.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susanne (nee Baker), daughter Joanne (Jim), daughter-in-law, Julianne, and grandchildren Tucker, Evelynn, and Rhys. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth (Gen) and sister Joyce (George), many nieces and nephews, and his pet companion, Oreo.
He was a fantastic husband, father, and pop who could always be relied upon for playground trips, rock concert chaperoning, sports team boosting, countless car rides, art lessons and supporting whatever else his family liked to do.
A gifted athlete, he was often seen doing flips from diving boards or on trampolines. He enjoyed painting, drawing, macrame and tinkering with things. He was also a devoted NY Yankees fan.
Bob proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966 and was a Vietnam Veteran.
He worked as a draftsman and as a repairman in the food service industry, most recently for Service Plus in Flanders, NJ.
A memorial service will be held on May 3 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta NJ 07871.
