Peter J. McIntyre

Mac was an avid member of the Sparta community, donating his time to coach and mentor generations of children in the sports he loved, especially basketball. He was affectionately known as “Coach Mac.” Everyone who walked through the door of the McIntyre house was treated like family by Mac. He was gregarious, generous, and charming. He was a passionate golfer and when not on the course, he could be found immersed in a book.

Mac is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years Maggie McIntyre and their four children Sean, Shannon, Devon, and Megan who all carry pieces of him, his brother Brendan and his wife Dawn and their son Ian. His brother James and his wife Maria and their children Eric and Allison and his sister Brenda. Peter also leaves behind his loving mother in law Mary Gaspar, sister in law Cathy and husband Bo Bowidowicz, Mary and husband Otto Hillenbran, George and wife Gabriella Gaspar, Andrew Gaspar, Teresa Gaspar and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his daughter Caitlyn, his parents Peter and Sabina McIntyre and father in law George Gaspar. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 30 from 2 - 6PM at Goble Funeral Home 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 1st at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Church 294 S. Sparta Ave., Sparta, NJ. Cremation will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship will be set up in the near future in Mac’s honor to support a Sparta High School Senior Girls and Boys Basketball Player.
