Maureen Karen Bakstad

Maureen was a lover of all people and animals, especially horses. Growing up, Maureen competed in horse racing competitions and her love for them grew from there. Any time she saw a horse farm, she had to stop to pet them (every time).

She had the biggest heart and always had everyone laughing, whether it was one of her famous “one liners” or a story from her childhood; her laugh would make you laugh harder. Maureen is deeply missed so much already.

Maureen was predeceased by her parents Walter and Jeanne Zaniewski, and her brothers Brian and Michael Zaniewski.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 18 years, Alan Bakstad, her son TJ and wife Amber, son Jared Durante, grandchildren Dorian, Sierra, and Hunter, niece Amy Zaniewski, mother in law Trudy, brother in laws Erik and David, and sister in law Tammy. Maureen also leaves behind her step daughters Jenna and Katie Bakstad, sister in law Susan Zaniewski, her fur babies Newton and Luna, and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 5 – 8 PM at Goble Funeral Home 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, 11AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 910 Birch St., Boonton, NJ 07005. Cremation will be held privately.
