Corrado was born on June 23, 1953 to Pasquale and Angela (Del Rosso) DeGennaro in Molfetta, Italy. He was the youngest of three children, predeceased by brother Vito and survived by sister Maria (Sergio) Patruno. Married December 4th 1976 to Jane (O’Connor) DeGennaro who pre-deceased him, Corrado is also survived by his loving adult children and their spouses: Angela (Ian) Hollander, David (Sarah) DeGennaro, and Sean (James Foucher) DeGennaro. He is also survived by his adoring grandsons, Nathaniel and Micah DeGennaro and an army of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who have made this life sweeter.
Corrado was a dedicated railroader, starting with Erie-Lackawana railroads in 1972 in Hoboken, NJ which became Conrail and then New Jersey Transit in 1983. Corrado became a mechanical department foreman for New Jersey Transit in the 1980s and served proudly for 44 years until his retirement in August 2016.
In retirement, Corrado loved to babysit his grandsons, work in the yard, work on his cars, play handyman around the house, and socialize with friends in a variety of activities and sports. Chief among those activities: hiking with the Wednesday Walkers at Kittatinny Valley State Park, tennis at Sparta Athletic Club or Hillside Park, bowling at Sparta Lanes, bagels with the fellow retired railroaders, and meetings with the Greater Andover Senior Citizens club.
Visitation for Corrado will be held at Goble Funeral Home 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ on Tuesday, Dec 27th from 4 - 9PM. An open mic sharing opportunity of memories about Corrado will happen from 7:30 to 8:30pm. Funeral service will be held on Wed., 10AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 24 Halsted St., Newton, NJ. Burial for close family to follow at Newton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The United Railroad Historical Society of Boonton, NJ. Their work keeps the history of the railroad, including NJ Transit, alive at www.urhs.org.
