Elliott R Garber, born May 24, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York to Morris and Eve Garber passed away on August 11,2024, at the age of 75. He was surrounded by his family and friends at the time of his passing
Elliott had a zest for life and worked hard to make his hot dog stand, Coney Island Joes, the hot spot of hot dog stands. He sold not only hot dogs and knishes but his pride of Brooklyn that were the roots of his business. His customers were more like family and there was always a lively discussion with the ones from New York about where the best hot dog, knishes etc were from. Even when they disagreed there was the kinship of being from the same place.
When you were around Elliott you were bound to hear stories about the Original Coney Island in New York, the difference between the real hotdogs and store bought, cars and Brooklyn among many other things he was passionate about. He loved his family, NHRA (his favorite driver was Erica Enders), the tv show Friends and taking his kids to Disney. He gave the best hugs and he would always make sure that his kids got one upon arrival and before they left.
In 2014 he met his wife, Debbie Ayers, at Gino’s Italian Market where he would buy his bread for the hotdog stand. It was an instant connection. They were married in 2022 after 8 years together. She was always at his side even in his final moments.
Elliotts friends came from childhood to customers and they were all considered family.
Family members include his wife, Debbie Ayers; children, Brian Garber (Jenifer), Cindy Garber, Shannon Garber (RC), Cheyanne Alba, Tiffany Jara (Rudy),Grandchildren; Ashton Garber, Dominic Gonzalez, Livia Garber, Josiah Garber and Rudolph Jara; sister Francine Garber-Cohen (Barry); and “adopted son” Steven
His laughter and jokes will be missed.
A funeral service for Elliott will be held Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Menorah Gardens & Funeral Chapels, 21100 West Griffin Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33332.
