Mr. Stewart was born November 22, 1946 in Brisbane, Australia to Robert and Isobel Stewart. Bill became a naturalized U.S. citizen in July 2010. He had worked in the oil and gas industry for 31 years, having retired from Atwood Oceanics in Houston, Texas. Bill was a world traveller and particularly enjoyed his travels through America. He was a big fan of NASCAR and Chevrolets, and loved his adopted home of Southport. He got a kick out of sitting on his porch rocker and watching the deer, squirrels and birds. Bill loved his wife Cherry, his children, grandchildren and his fur kids and he had a beautiful talent for making his friends feel loved. He will be fondly remembered for his genuine greeting of “How ya doin’ mate?”
Bill is survived by his wife Cherry; a son Mark Stewart and wife Jody of Perth, Australia; daughters Jodie Clark and husband Jason of Brisbane, Australia and Elise Stewart of Melbourne, Australia; and step-son Brandon Rees of Houston, Texas; his brother Anthony Stewart and wife Maria; sisters Karen Franklin and husband Wayne, and Margaret Stewart, all of Queensland, Australia; and four grandchildren, Trent Clark, Zoe Clark, Will Stewart, and Sam Stewart. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Wes and Georgeann Allen and Beverly and Jack Horan, all of Texas.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 24, 2017 in the Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lee Eiss officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home chapel.
