Mr. Kennedy was born November 15, 1933 in Townsend, Georgia the son of the late William Henry and Lenora Tostensen Kennedy. He was a member of Yulee Florida Baptist Church. Mr. Kennedy was retired from the United State Marine Corps having served 20 years; including two tours in Vietnam and one in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Kennedy was an aircraft flight engineer and flew in 560 combat missions in Vietnam and earned 28 Air Medals. After his retirement from the Marines in 1973 he went to work as the fleet services manager for the City of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He retired from Rock Hill in 1993 and moved to Southport where he was affectionately known as “Blue Boat Bob”. He loved fishing, helping friends and traveling.
Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his wife Jerrianne Newman Kennedy; a son Richard Alan Kennedy; a brother William Henry Kennedy; and three sisters, Hazel Jones, Jane Liles, and Pat Siprell.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Michael Kennedy and wife Marlene of Scottsdale, Arizona and Jeffery Scott Kennedy of Rock Hill, South Carolina; a sister Annie Jo Cowart and husband Loy of Twin City, Georgia; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; special friends, Christine Roberts, Trudy Thomas, and Donna Landis; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday, April 16, 2015 in the Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Service Chapel with.
A graveside service will be held in the Coleman Cemetery in Twin City, Georgia, under the direction of Durden – Hudson Funeral Directors of Swainsboro.
