Billy was born March 29, 1941, in Guilford County to the late Edgar Oldham and Algie Hardin Oakley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and had played semi-pro baseball. Billy dedicated his off-time to coaching youth baseball for many years.
He retired from Olympic Products Inc., a division of Cone Mills Corporation, after 35 years. Billy was an avid golfer who enjoyed his membership and friends at Oak Island Country Club. He loved his New York Yankees and UNC Tar Heels. Most of all he will be remembered as a fine Christian man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, “Paw-Paw” and friend.
Survivors include his wife Linda Craig Oldham, also formerly of Greensboro; two sons, Doug Oldham and wife Gina of Southport and David Oldham and wife Janique of Winston-Salem; four granddaughters, Charly McKenzie Oldham, Cambria Lillie Oldham, Cassidy Marie Oldham, all of Southport, and Ava Julian Vaughan-Oldham of Winston-Salem. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at Bethel Baptist Church in Southport with Reverend Jeff Saggus officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1628 N. Howe Street, Southport, NC 28461.
