Betty was born January 16, 1949 in New Hanover County and was the daughter of the late Rockfellow and Ethel Edwards Benton. She retired after 38 years with the U.S. Customs in Wilmington. Betty was a member of Elah Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Lanier Sr. of the home; a son, Jimmy Lanier Jr. and wife Hannah of Leland; two grandchildren, Gracie Lanier and husband Michael Cox of Wilmington, and William Lanier; a brother, Bernard Benton of Hallsboro; and a sister, Linda Lanier of Winnabow.
A memorial service for Betty will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 at two o'clock in the afternoon at Elah Baptist Church with Reverend Kenneth Long officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be directed to Lower Cape Hospice and Life Care or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
