Mrs. Clewis was born November 28, 1946, to the late James and Lucy Melton. She had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1956. She graduated from Southport High School in 1965 where she was on the Lady Dolphins basketball team throughout high school and graduated from UNC Wilmington in 1971. Mrs. Clewis was a member of the Southport Planning Board for 32 years. She and her husband Earl have owned and operated Woodside RV Park since 1967. Mrs. Clewis was the “team mom” for all the boys' sports. She was a very sweet and kindhearted person to everyone she knew. She loved reading, bird watching, and tending to her flowers.
Survivors includer her husband of 57 years, Earl Clewis; children Amy VanDyne, and Michael Clewis and wife Beth; three grandchildren, Caison Clewis Clemmons and husband Caleb, Carly Clewis and Wyatt Clewis; a great-grandson, Carter Clemmons; a brother, John Melton and wife Linda; a sister, Dianne Melton Ristow and husband Rick; and her lifelong best friend, Brenda Crisco.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rodney Melton, Sr. and his wife Cathy.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial to follow the service in the Northwood Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Home Instead and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the excellent care given to Mrs. Clewis.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Clewis, Wyatt Clewis, Rodney Melton Jr., Bryon Prevatte, Gregory Prevatte, and Michael Simmons.
