Born in Southington on October 23, 1938 to the late Vincent and Philomena (Ogonowski) Sepko, she was raised in town and attended local schools. Married to George M. Zarrella Jr. until his passing in 1968, she had two beautiful boys who she raised with love and pride. As a homemaker, her true loving nature was impressed upon her children and family through the love and great care she gave to them all.
Melanie spent some time as a librarian at Flanders Library as well as a volunteer at the local hospital gift shop. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, UCONN women's basketball, and a nice treat of vanilla ice cream. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Thomas Church and once closed she attended Immaculate Conception. She loved to travel and enjoyed her many trips to Hawaii to visit her son Dale and family. She will be missed and always loved by those who had the privilege to know her.
She is survived by her two sons Jeff Zarrella and his fiancée Carla Mongillo of Southington, as well as her son Dale Zarrella of Hawaii. She is also survived by her granddaughter Shala Fernandez and her husband Dale of Hawaii, great-grandchildren Kamaehu and Uilaunaole, her brother Paul Sepko and sister Elizabeth Gregory and her husband Doug. She also leaves behind to treasure her memory her dear friends, "The Wicked Stepsisters", Bev, Lucille, Bonnie M, and Shirley. She was preceded in death by her sister Irene Sherman, brother Vincent "Butchy" Sepko Jr. as well as her friends the "Wicked Stepsisters" Helen, Mary Lou, Bonnie L, Hazel and Lois.
A visitation for Melanie will be held on Wednesday November 6, 2024 from 4-7PM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington, CT 06489. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday November 7, 2024 at 11AM. Interment will immediately follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.
