Leo J. Oddo, 89, of Southington passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Bristol Hospital. He was the loving husband of AnneMarie (Sullivan) Oddo for 31 years.
Leo was born September 13, 1935, in Augusta, Sicily and was the son of the late Giusseppe and Giovannina (D’Augusta) Oddo.
He came to the United States in 1946, at the age of eleven. He retired from the MFT, a trucking industry, in 2002 and served with the CT Army National Guards for 9 years. He was an active member of the Sons of Italy in Southington, and a member of the American Legion Post 72.
Leo was a simple, modest man with a heart full of love. He brought two families together with his boundless love. He shared with his two natural daughters the love of sports which brought him to being their softball coach for many years. He also took them on endless fishing trips and Sunday drives to nowhere and many other spontaneous adventures.
His love only broadened with his stepchildren and the many step grandchildren that he got to enjoy, never forgetting a monumental moment of any of their lives. Leo was his happiest when he shared the love of nature exchanging plants, tending to his vegetables and many flower gardens. Also, because of his Sicilian roots he was an amazing cook, and he loved family cookouts, and the family especially loved his spaghetti and meatballs with his famous sauce (he forgot to give us his recipe lol). Sundays were always a special day visiting his children and grandchildren or taking trips to the shore for a good seafood meal and maybe a quick stop at the casino. Leo had a love for not only his family but was blessed with many friends, personal friends as well Facebook friends. He was always sharing a text or message just to say hello or how are you doing. He genuinely cared about everyone he knew. We will miss those famous words FUHGEDABOUBIT.
Leo loved to watch the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and wrestling. He loved watching the birds with the many bird houses that he built in his yard. But most of all he loved to spend his days with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Leo enjoyed going out with his friends and family to dinner and playing cards and let us not forget his cigars that he constantly chewed.
In addition to his wife AnneMarie ,he leaves behind his children, Cindy Oddo-McKinstry of Hartford, Lisa Marie Oddo and fiancé Danny of Windsor Locks, Frederick Hoadley Jr. of Bristol, Annette Berube and husband Dennis of Bristol, Patty Mason and husband Randy of Bristol and Ree Hoadley of FL; his grandchildren Tony Roy, Shawn & Desiree McKinstry, and Jonathan Dobitsky.
Dr. Keri Hoadley, Kelly Conrad & Kenny Tenan, Joshua & Stephanie Williams, E.J Hoadley & Matthew Mason, Dillon Hoadley & Sean Ryan; his great grandchildren, Giana Jimenez, Jovan Lumpkin, Kendall Williams, Nathan Dobitsky, Ruth & Theo Conrad, Niveaa & Jalynn Williams, Landon, Silas & Kalani Barrett, and Ethan Hoadley; his brother, Peter Oddo and his wife Mary Jane of W. Hartford, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Teresa and her husband John Delisa of Windsor Locks and his sister Nicoletta Castro of Noto, Sicily, and his brother Salvatore Oddo of Windsor Locks.
Visitation for Leo will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 11 a.m.– 2 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. There will be a Celebration of Life following the service at the Sons of Italy, 139 Center St. Southington, CT. Burial will be privately held with his family at a later date.
