John E. Lessor

John E. Lessor, 88, of Southington, beloved widow of the late Barbara (DiCaprio) Lessor, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain Campus. John was born in Burlington, VT on March 1, 1935, and was the son of the late Thomas B. and Ruth E. (Prindle) Lessor. He was a graduate of Middletown High School and The Hartford Institute of Accounting. John served two years in the U.S. Army at Camp Zama in Japan. He had an illustrious career in the accounting field. Among his employment history he worked for Columbia Pictures in NYC, Continental-National Insurance Company of Hartford, The Hartford Fire Insurance Company of Hartford, and finally retiring from the CT. Dept. of Labor as the Director of the Unemployment Tax Division. Following retirement, he was very active with the CT State Employees Association and served as the President for local CSEA Chapter 400 for many years. John was an avid sports fan, which included baseball, golf, tennis and jogging. He ran in many races, but his favorite was the Thanksgiving race in Manchester. He was former parishioner of St. Thomas Church of Southington. John is survived by his two children, Christine Lessor of Southington and his son Gary Lessor and his wife Sherry of Plantsville. He is also survived by his brother James of Moodus, and by his two sisters, Joanne Lessor of Cromwell, and Patricia Tuccitto of Moodus. A Mass of Christian Burial for John will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage St. Southington, CT 06489. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
