Joseph F. Holden Jr, a resident of Churchville, PA since 1970 died Wednesday November 30th. He was 82 years old. The eldest son of the late Catherine (Siney) and Joseph “Socks” Holden, Joe was born in 1940 and raised in St. Clair, PA. He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1958 where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. After graduating he joined the United States Army where he spent 3 years on active duty, two of them stationed in Germany.
A graduate of Bloomsburg University in 1965, he later received his Master’s Degree in education from Trenton State University (College of New Jersey). In 1969, Joe began his 35-year career as a teacher and administrator in the Burlington Township School District where he also served as the head baseball coach for 9 years. Upon retirement, he worked part time at ABCO Federal Credit Union for 16 years.
Having played baseball in High School, College and for the U.S Army, Joe was elected to the Allen Rogowitz Chapter, Schuylkill County, of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
Joe is survived by the “love of his life” Amelia (Engelkraut) Holden, whom he was married to for 56 years, son Craig (Amy) grandchildren Lauren and Shane, son Joseph (Judy) grandchildren Aidan, Amelia, Alexa and Alec, and son Brian. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen (deceased John Kanish) and brothers John (Joan) and Tim (Gwen), each of Schuylkill County. Joe was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, sibling and friend.
A viewing for Joseph will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 654 Hatboro Road, Richboro, PA 18954 followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM. A burial will occur Friday, December 9, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 18456. A luncheon will follow.
