John was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, by loving parents Fred and Theresa (DeNero) Cipriano. After graduating from Holy Ghost Preparatory School he went on to pursue his undergraduate degree at Villanova University. He continued his education at the University of Scranton, graduating with a Master’s degree. John went on to establish a career as a psychologist, working with the Cherry Hill School District, the Burlington County Special Services School District, and Care Connection in Oxford Valley, in addition to a private practice he maintained for many years in Huntingdon Valley, PA.
As a part of his long career in professional counseling, he worked with the Bucks County Critical Incident Stress Management team, providing support to first responders who experienced distress after exposure to critical incidents while on the job. He was especially proud of his work counseling NYPD and FDNY first responders in New York in the aftermath of 9/11.
He had a lifelong passion for model trains and classic and antique automobiles. On almost any nice summer weekend he could be found at car shows in the Delaware Valley and beyond, and he especially enjoyed his time spent with friends at the annual shows in Hershey and Carlisle. He was a member of the Ford Club and the Professional Car Society and was a past member of the Plymouth Club and the Barracuda Club. He also loved spending time at the Jersey Shore, rooting for the Philadelphia Flyers and Oakland Raiders, and playing pinball.
An avid traveler, John loved sailing with family and friends on the Chesapeake Bay and around the Virgin Islands. As a lover of all things maritime, he was a frequent cruiser and saw most of the world on dozens of river cruises and ocean voyages. In addition to a love of old movies and memorabilia, music played a very important role in his life. John loved playing guitar and attending concerts and performances of all kinds. He was called the life of the party and made friends wherever he went, often breaking the ice with an amusing story or joke. He especially enjoyed a weekly gathering of close friends at Erwin’s Country Kitchen in Trevose, PA.
John is survived by his children, Christine (Stephen) Niezgoda and twins Thomas Cipriano and Carla Lovell; grandchildren Emory, Jordan and Waverly; and his loving companion Sharon Ross.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Wm. Rowen Grant Funeral Home, 659 Street Road, Southampton, PA 18966, from 9:00am – 12:00pm, with a service to follow. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem, Pa.
